THE LORD'S PRAYER SERIES; Protection and Deliverance from Evil

Matthew.6.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (KJV)

The scripture you have just read does not mean that God tempts men. God tries but does not tempt. Temptation comes from the devil and human desires.

Then why say "lead us not into temptation?"

Luke.4.1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. (NIV)

First, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert where the devil was. Secondly He was hungry confirming what tempts. And at the end of the temptation, He fell not. Why?

Here is what many overlook; returning from the Jordan, Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit. This Spirit was not just to lead Him to the desert but to also keep Him from being overcome by the temptation.

Until God has filled you with the Holy Spirit to the place of withstanding any temptation, the only thing we can do is to ask that He keeps us from any temptation.

In the same way, Jesus also prayed for the church.

John.17.15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. (KJV)

Should any be overcome or should any fall into any temptation, our prayer should be that He delivers us from evil.

Only God has the power to set us free from the grip of evil and wickedness should we be found in it's hands. Instead of running away from God, ask Him to deliver you from that addiction, anger or work of Satan.

Remember making a prayer asking God to keep you from temptation yet having a secret desire to do what corrupts is hypocrisy and such is a person who may fall into temptation. But should you fall, ask God to deliver you.

The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and set you on a firm foundation and guard you from the evil one. (2Thess.3.3 AMP)

When we pray that God leads us not into temptation and that He delivers us from evil, this is what happens:

No temptation will seize you except what is common to man. And God who is faithful will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. And when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. [1Cor.10.13]

Trust in God to shield you from the devil and all evil because His is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen

Hallelujah!
