Psalm.78.18 They willfully tested God in their hearts, demanding the foods they craved. (NLT)
There is a clear cut difference between 'your needs' and 'your wants.' Sadly many people don't see from the lenses of God what their need is and what becomes their want.
With out that knowledge, they actually misuse John.14.13 which says, "And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (KJV)
What does it mean to ask in His name? It's not about the statement made at the end of the prayer --In Jesus' name I have prayed. Amen. No. It's about the understanding of the person and authority of Jesus Christ, praying in His mind and knowing His will and purposes.
That's why when the men went to drive out demons without that understanding, they were beaten. [Acts.19.14 - 16].
Many people go to God to demand what they actually want not to ask for their need. Now there they are no different with the Israelites who willfully tested God in their hearts, demanding the foods they craved.
No man who has gone to ask God for a need has not received. Today most of the unanswered prayers are in the category of wants not need.
The hearts of some people have become bitter because their prayers have not been answered. Scripture says you are testing God in your heart.
The greatest thing any man will ever need is Jesus Christ in their lives. A man counted knowing Christ more profitable than anything else that he would get in this world.
God supplies everything else to whoever seeks to get a hold of the need, even to know Him deeply.
Matthew.10.39 If your first concern is to look after yourself, you'll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you'll find both yourself and me. (MSB)
It's not about what you want, but what God knows is your need. Many times God brings what we need, but because you are soaked up in the pursuit of what you want, you end up ignoring your need.
Let your prayer be full of your need and watch the wants being added to you. Never make you wants prayer points because you put God to test in your heart.
Hallelujah!
