THE GODLINESS WITH GREAT GAIN

1Timothy.6.11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. (NIV)

"But you, man of God, flee from all this." Flee from what? In the previous verses, he talks about one who teaches false doctrine, is conceited and understands nothing. He who has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

So we understood that the major issues here are false doctrine, lack of knowledge of the truth, unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels, and the desires for financial gain. These are what result into envy, malice, evil suspicion and friction.

The major cause of church separation today is basically centered around these. Many people don't really have the heart that yearns to see souls saved. All they think is that godliness is a way to financial gain. The fight for positions in the church is not about bringing order in the church but about increasing the share.

That is a fallen understanding of godliness. The Bible says godliness with contentment is great gain. What does this mean? When you try to devote yourself in the things of God with the aim of getting financial gain, you will definitely lose the way. But when you devote yourself to God with a mind content with what you have, you will surely gain.

So, man of God, ask yourself what the center of your ministry is; financial gain or the saving of souls and establishment of truth.

Because the way of the spirit rewards people who seek first the kingdom of God not those who seek the reward.

Matthew.6.33 And he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. (NLT)

Therefore, child of God, flee from the desire to use godliness as a means to get financial gain, from the twisting of the scripture to your advantage and from controversies and quarrels.

Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness because that is the kind of life that is actually a great gain.

Hallelujah!
