Genesis.25.34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. (NKJV)
As the first son, Esau was the heir of his father's house and was entitled to a double portion of inheritance. And was expected to carry on from his father Isaac. Not forgetting the promises that God made to His father and grand father.
By scripture, Esau treated his birth right with contempt. He despised his birthright. He didn't care about what it meant to be the heir of his father's house and became careful to fill his stomach.
In John.1.12 He says, "as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.." Therefore, You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.[ Gal.3.26].
Deeper than just sons, He made us the first fruits of his creation.
James.1.18 And it was of His own [free] will that He gave us birth [as sons] by [His] Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures [a sample of what He created to be consecrated to Himself]. (AMP)
Therefore, we are heirs. Romans.8.17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Esau was suffering, indeed he was hungry but not going to die as he supposed. He sought to satisfy his stomach at the expense of his heirship.
And that is what has become of some christians today. While we know that the devil is bad and evil, he has known that man can give up an inheritance for a good thing that can satisfy his craving. So he always presents good things to kill destiny.
Was Jesus Christ not going to get glory after resurrection? He was. But the devil presented glory –which was good but with out destiny fulfilled.
He said why go through the cross yet you can get glory without dying?
For the third test, the Devil took him on the peak of a huge mountain. He gestured expansively, pointing out all the earth's kingdoms, how glorious they all were. Then he said, "They're yours--lock, stock, and barrel. Just go down on your knees and worship me, and they're yours." (Matt.4.8 -9 MSB)
And many children of God have fallen into the deception of the devil. What happens then is that everytime you are seeing blessings slipping off your hands. Why? You have sold your birthright and traded it for comfort.
Your stomach has become your god . So long as it satisfies you, you don't care about destiny. Then the serious ones come and take from you.
Obadiah.1.6 How are the things of Esau [Edom] searched out! How are his hidden treasures sought out! (AMP)
You make plans to do something and everytime before you can execute it, someone else goes ahead of you. Selah!
Child of God, get wise never to trade your heirship for what this world can offer. God consecrated you for Himself that you should inherited the kingdom not that you gain all this world and loose your soul.
