THE POWER OF FIRST LOVE

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans.5.8 NKJV)

I have heard people talk about who their first love was, referring to the first person they admired and had a relationship with.

And it's evident by the scars they have in their hearts how much they were broken, some still suffering from the depression of being disappointed by what they call first love.

But why are they really broken? Is it because the love was too strong enough to destroy them? Or they were just too weak and couldn't bear the weight of losing it?

I would give a simple answer; they didn't build a relationship with the true first love.

Your fiance, boyfriend, girlfriend, wife or husband can never be the true first love. The true first love is described in our theme scripture;

"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

More than two thousand years ago with the plan spanning way back before the creation, God sent His Son Jesus Christ to demonstrate His love for us when we were not even born. While the sin of our fore father's held us cursed, Christ paid a price for us.

What happens when someone says I am demonstrating for you? It means I am showing you how to do it. Therefore they do it first. Right? That's why your spouse can not be your first love.

The reason why families are breaking, relationships are hitting shipwreck and marriages turning into contracts is because people have not learned from or even bothered to look into what this first love from God means and what it teaches.

There is no truth in relationships because of fear and guilt. The fear to lose or be exposed and the guilt of being the wrong one. People often lie to cover these up. But one sin leads to another.

What the first love of God does is to deal with fear and guilt.

1John.4.18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. (NIV)

Acts.13.38-39 "Brothers, listen! In this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is freed from all guilt and declared right with God--something the Jewish law could never do. (NLT)

Having learned and soaked yourself in this first love of God, you can not fail to demonstrate love to another.

Agape; the love of God, being the mother of all love proceeds all other types of love. In most cases, other types of love for example Eros don't start from the heart. They are driven by emotion, mind and personal will. Then they start creeping towards the heart.

Agape however starts from the heart and causes the emotions, mind and will to be submissive to God. You can never submit to your husband or wife if you have not submitted to God.

Who is your first love? Is it God, man or money? Selah!

Hallelujah!
