He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." (John.1.51 NIV)
If a question was asked: how do you reach God? Or perhaps let's start from whether man can or cannot reach God? Of course we would receive varried answers each describing a different way.
One would say through praying and fasting, the other would say through mother Mary, others would say going to church, while may of course would have their prophet, teach, evangelist, priest or pastor in the middle there.
But do any of these perform the role of breaching the gap between Us and God? I will show you that no!
In our theme scripture, Jesus is echoing the truth God revealed to Jacob in his dream in Genesis.28.12: Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. (NKJV)
We know that Angels are messenger who carry our prayers and petitions together with our requests to God. Thereafter, they bring what God has said to us–ascend and descend.
Yet these angels use a ladder from the earth to heaven. Angels are messengers who work through the link, our prayers are a language, your pastor or priest is human and a servant of God not a link.
To bridge the gap between Us and God, we needed one who understood and knew the nature and way of God and also tested what it means to carry flesh.
And there is only one, even Jesus Christ. One who was one hundred percent God and one hundred percent man. [Philippians 2.6-8]
In telling Nathaniel and other disciples that
they shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man," He was simply saying "I am the ladder by which you can reach God."
Your prayers and petitions should be in my name to reach God. The Angels go through me to minister to man, and in my name men are appointed as priest of the most high God.
Have it in the back of your head that there is only and only one way to reach God: Jesus Christ.
