And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. (Revelation.22.17 NKJV)
Our theme scripture speaks of a great invitation, which is a reminder of all the promises of God in His word.
Like people are invited to a marriage ceremony, the Bridge and the respective families take the responsibility of inviting the guests.
In our theme scripture, the Bible talks of the Spirit, the Bride(the church) and whoever hears as those charged with the responsibility of inviting those in the world into the great gift of God.
We have a responsibility of carrying the good news of the gift of life that God has prepared for anyone who desires and wills.
We become irresponsible if we, as those who are the bride sit and watch perhaps even laughing at those who are thirsty and have not known the truth instead of inviting them.
It is also a reminder that as a gift from God, it is completely free. Preaching the gospel which is tagged with a price is against the truth. "Do this to receive..." It ceases to be a free gift from God.
That's why immediately after the invitation, a warning follows;
Revelation.22.18 -19 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. (NIV)
Our mandate is one: say, "Come!" to him who thirsts and whoever desires, to take the water of life freely.
Not tagging the gift of life from God with works and costs causing the Gospel and salvation to look expensive.
Hallelujah!
