Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; the LORD has sent me to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel. (2Kings.2.2 NIV)
A statistical analysis of relationships between great people and those who would learn and receive from them would show that many don't actually benefit from these great figures.
It seems many young figures just want to be around these great men and women for prestige and recognition. But wisdom teaches that there is something to be desired from these great people.
Now Elisha was not puffed up by being close to Elijah but understood that there was certainly something to receive from Him. When told to leave, he says; "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you."
People who have not understood this truth will take advantage of anything to leave the presence of the great because they have no reason to stay anyway.
Like many of Jesus' disciples left Him, so do those in this generation walk away from people who are able to bless their lives and transform them.
In John.6.67, Jesus said unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
It is exactly what Elisha said to Elijah. He knew that receiving from Elijah would have a lifetime impact on Him.
Child of God, cultivate an intentional kindred spirit. It not for prestige and recognition that God brings you close to the anointed. Stick close no matter what until something is birthed in you.
Hallelujah!
