GODLY CHARACTER IN WORK

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. (Colossians.3.24 KJV)

In the previous verse, Paul an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, is telling us to work at everything with all our heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. So how does our service to other people matter to God? Does it even profit Him?

Sometimes we really need to understand that there is nothing about man that does not concerned God. The Apostle gives us the mind behind a service not centered on just the reward man gives for our labor but on something everlasting.

He says, while you do anything with all your heart, Know that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. The word used for inheritance here means heirship.

Spiritually, inheritance means receiving divine blessings, promises (like eternal life, salvation, God's Kingdom), wisdom, and a legacy of faith passed down through generations, often accessed by faith and obedience, not just birth, representing an eternal, imperishable gift from God rather than worldly possessions.

It’s about spiritual identity as children of God, inheriting His character, and living consistently with that new nature.

To God it is important above all things that we embrace and live as His children. Character built by love and obedience above perishable rewards.

Man sees your actions concerning what you have been given to do and thus rewards you, yet God looks at the state of your heart in all that you do.

Inheritance is for sons and daughters, not just servants. Servants work for a pay. So no matter the outcome of their work, what counts for them is completion of a task and receiving their reward. Heirs work diligently making sure the outcome preserves the character and legacy in them that is also in the father.

This is the mind with which scripture is speaking to us today. Observe your character in all that you do. Inheritance from God is a free gift from God, however children of God should embrace Christ and follow His example in all things to receive it.

Just like Christ was faithful in all that the father entrusted Him in obedience, so should we.

Hallelujah!
