In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden. (Colossians.2.3 AMP)
Take a picture of people in the movies searching for hidden treasures in mysterious places not open and known to all people.
The Bible says Christ is the mystery of God, yet in Him all the treasures of divine wisdom and all the riches of spiritual knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden.
The same zeal and even more than that should be applied in the seeking for these treasures in Christ. So how do we increase in wisdom and understanding?
It is in the understanding of the mystery of God that is Christ. What have you set your heart to seek for? To what end is your study of scripture? Is it to wedge arguments with people, is it to gain fame and prestige in your peers and to boast that you know scripture?
All scripture written both in the old and new testament point to the understanding of the person of Christ. That is why Moses(the law) and Elijah (prophecy) came to agree with Jesus Christ during His transfiguration. [Luke 9.29-31].
What then does it mean to seek for the wisdom and understanding of God as though for hidden treasures? It is in the desire to have more insight and enlightenment of the ways and purposes of God in Christ.
Yes the understanding of the person of Christ is not open to all, but only to them who want to know His ways and purposes.
Set your heart to the understanding of the person of Jesus Christ above the quest for the wisdom of this world which comes to vanity.
