God said to Solomon, "Since this is your heart's desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have." (2Chronicles.1.11- 12 NIV)
Jesus Christ said, "ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." [John.14.14]. What a privilege? We have assurance of anything we desire. Now how and what you ask is what creates the difference between us though all has equal privilege.
I have learnt that in God there are things which act as a door for the entrance of the rest of the things. Solomon would have been grateful that he was made king and asked for what serves his interests. But he did the opposite.
This man understood the mandate and responsibilities that had been passed to him as king. "....for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?" (2Chronicles.1.9-10).
It's God's responsibility to take care of anybody who takes up His cross and follows Him. For this reason asking for the right thing can set you to a place where you no longer have to ask because you receive before asking.
Isaiah.65.24 I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking to me about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! (NLT)
How then do you know what to ask for above the others? Understanding your calling and mandate. Then ask for what really serves that purpose.
Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. (Matthew.6.32-33 NLT)
Hallelujah!
