All the people answered, "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" (Matthew.27.25 NIV)
The text in our theme scripture is a portion of the story of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In here the crowd is accepting to bear the responsibility of the blood of the innocent son of God calling it upon themselves and their children after them.
It was not by the will of God that they take the responsibility but they wanted it for themselves. Someone would say Christ washed away that curse. Yes He did. But who are they that have been purged?
Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. (John.3.18 MSB)
It is plain that the rejection of these people was out of ignorance [Luke 23.34] and later realized He was the Son of God. Now, remember ignorance is not an excuse for sin. Such [former] ages of ignorance God, it is true, ignored and allowed to pass unnoticed; but now He charges all people everywhere to repent (to change their minds for the better and heartily to amend their ways, with abhorrence of their past sins), (Acts.17.30 AMP)
Today we have known or perhaps have tasted Christ and His blood. How then can any profess ignorance?
Anybody who rejects or abandons Christ has already been judged. These have trampled the Son of God and counted the blood common.
Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews.10.29 NKJV)
Christ said any man can be forgiven but woe to the one who insults the Spirit of God.
Mark.3.28–29 I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin." (NIV)
This is the danger of rejecting or abandoning Christ.
