And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. (Luke.1.60 -61)
It's not told to us that an angel appeared to Elizabeth as He did to Zechariah to make known of John's birth and the naming. Amazingly even when She had not been visited nor told by the husband for he was made dumb, she new the right name.
It's therefore clear that heaven had already marked the Child by this name that nothing could change. The elders sought to call Him by an ancestral name yet the mother refused.

What does God call you in Christ? No matter what your ancestors were, refuse to be identified by that blood line Spiritually and be identified by God. There is power in a name.
Your ancestors may have been wicked, by God you are His righteousness. They may have been failures; in God you are the head and not the tail. They may have served false gods but you are made a king and priest unto the most high God.
The naming of God is able to separate you from anything that pertains to your ancestry. Remember, when you got born again, even the blood flowing through your veins changed. You became a new creation.
Never be comfortable with the names and titles of this world! Strive to manifest God given identity.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. (Revelation.2.17 KJV)
