GOODNESS OR GODLINESS?

Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, ...and he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people. (1Samuel.9.1-2 KJV)

The son we read here is the very King we see reigning over Israel and later being rejected by God. But I want us to look at the credentials accorded to him; a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he.

Now before I proceed let's also read about the one who becomes God's choicest replacement for Saul –David.

1Samuel.16.18 One of the young men said, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who plays skillfully, a valiant man, a man of war, prudent in speech and eloquent, an attractive person; and the Lord is with him. (AMP)

It is important to note that nothing is mentioned about Saul of God to have been with Him. All were fine looking and good. But there was something special about David. Take a read through the moment of the anointing of David as king and what was said about his brother.

1Samuel.16.7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. (KJV)

Isn't Eliab displaying exactly what Saul had? I believe he is. Yet God rejected Him. To God the Heart of a man is more important than the appearance. The heart is the center of Godliness and the appearance gives goodness. But remember Godliness is able to give birth to goodness.

Ephesians.5.9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. (NLT)

Today you are asking God to lift you to a certain level, but what are you relying on as your credentials? Your appearance and ability? Or the state of your heart with God. Has God proved your heart and found it obedient? Abraham is the father of faith. But God proved and testified of Him to be obedient and broken to His instruction.

Gen.18.17 -19 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. (KJV)

God can not deny a godly man anything. Neither can he hide anything from Him. God tore a kingdom from a goodly man and gave it to a godly man. One who was better than Him.

Now I ask: what do you choose? GOODNESS or GODLINESS? As far as I know, God's choice is GODLINESS. Be wise in your spirit and grow wisely.

Hallelujah!
