ALL LOSS THAT WE MAY GAIN CHRIST

Phil.3.7–8 I once thought all these things were so very important, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ (NKJV)

~

What have you counted as gain and what do you take so precious and important to you? Prestige? Riches? Property? Family? Education? Or carrier? Paul says he too once counted all things important to him, but now he considers them worthless because of Christ.

What is your heart desperately reaching out for? Christ or other? Gain is not in acquiring what is made by man or from your effort. True gain is in the acquisition of the excellent knowledge of Christ. The knowledge of Christ should not just end at recognizing His existence. The word excellent goes beyond mere knowing Christ. We have to get to a place of being wholly immersed in Christ. That the knowledge of Him becomes an experience, not just a theory.

Oh man! What do you boast of?

Jer.9.23 - 25 This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD. "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will punish all who are circumcised only in the flesh (NIV)

If a person loses all things and gains Christ he is gaining far more than he loses, and should not feel sorry for himself. For in Christ is wisdom, righteousness, holiness, redemption, and every spiritual blessing. What does it cost to be God's sheep? Everything a person has. What does a person gain by becoming God's sheep? Everything God has.

Hallelujah!
