1Kings.17.2 - 3 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: "Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan.(NIV)
The wilderness is a moment when things seem working against you yet for your good because God is Testing, Breaking and Consecrating you for the purpose for which He called you. It's a time of preparation.
It can be a moment of scarcity, a feeling of separation from others, solitude, insufficiency, sometimes a time when temptation is allowed into you life.
Elijah had just made a decree that there will be neither dew nor rain in the land in the next few years except at His word."
Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: "Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan." Surely Elijah's life was in danger and the Lord called him to a hiding place.
However, while in solitude, in a land with neither dew nor rain falling, a land where famine was so severe that people ate their own children, God had a plan for Elijah.
It reminds me of Abraham, who God called out of his father's house and land to a foreign land. In His time, there came a famine in which without the command of God he went to Egypt to survive. The result was challenges upon challenges.
His son, Isaac also faced the same issue but God commanded him not to go down to Egypt. His grand son Jacob also faced the same–another famine. But God allowed him to go down to Egypt and Here is the reason why;
He had sent Joseph ahead of them.
Genesis.45.7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
Isaac was made great in the barren land when he stayed.
Gen.26.2 -14 The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live..... Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy. He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.
Back to Elijah. The Bible says God Sayed, "I have ordered the ravens to feed you there." Some time later when the brook dried up He sent him at once to Zarephath of Sidon saying, "I have commanded a widow in that place to supply you with food."
What does this tell you? Before God allows you to go through anything, He first commands everything you need for sustenance to be available.
God fed the Israelites with manna for forty years and made them drink from a rock.
God does not call anyone into the wilderness only to let them die.
Don't give up! Treat it as a moment of testing and consecration. Never worry about what happens there. It's just the beginning of your greatness.
Hallelujah!
