Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. (Proverbs.25.28 NIV)
To a large extent, people want to exercise control over others and ignore their own spirits. So you keep wondering why everything that passes by is affecting you.
The scripture is showing us how it looks like when you can't exercise control over your own spirit: You are like a city whose walls are broken down.
The human spirit is transactional. It means it can receive and give. So what happens when the barrier is destroyed?
Okay let's say mobile money service providers eliminate PINs and passcodes. What would become of the accounts and the scammers?
That is exactly what the human spirit undergoes when self-control is set aside.
In a city, walls are designed to control inflows and outflows, protect people, give a platform for combat and provide safety.
Without a wall, anything can access the city.
Having self-control means setting boundaries for your spirit based on the word of God. It is part of consecration .
It is because Paul had control over his spirit that he said, "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient."
Not everything that seems right should carry you along, and having liberty does not mean everything is beneficial to you.
Always remember that nothing outside your purpose in the body of Christ is expedient for you although it is lawful.
Hallelujah!
