Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord God, when I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but [a famine] for hearing the words of the Lord. (Amos.8.11 AMP)
Someone would say the word of God is abundant and is preached anywhere and everywhere.Today even AI can compose a full sermon for somebody and preach it to them. On social media everyone is preaching. So how then can there be a famine?
Well, I would like to tell you something about what comes out of the mouth of the Lord God. It is;
1. Seasoned (comes at the right time and is time bound, yet lives forever)
2. Intentional (comes with purpose and design, not by accident)
So, when God sends out His word, it comes aligned and bound by Time, season and purpose. So what happens when people don't listen or listen and don't care to obey the word of God? They miss His power and purpose.
Imagine being given transport fare and you don't care to carry it with you and now you are in the vehicle about to reach the destination with all your luggage. Think about what you will do. At that point you feel like reversing the time to when that money was being handed to you. At that time, it's not your phone or luggage that you need. You need the transport money.
So is it with the word of God. You can have a multitude of teachers and sources speaking the word of God, but to get the one speaking to your point of need, correction or destiny is where the challenge comes. This is the famine.
Ask yourself, why are people running from church to church and never getting satisfied? In fact whenever they leave a church, they call it a cult church. These people probably missed the word of God in it's due season. Or perhaps, they disobeyed the instruction.
2Timothy.3.16 Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God 's will in thought, purpose, and action), (AMP)
As a punishment for disobedience, the hunger and thirst are come upon the sons of men. It is not that the word of God is not being preached, but because men have failed to separate the voice of God directed to them when they are in crowds.
God always speaks to individuals even when in multitudes. The wisdom to identify what is for you is what will save you the famine.
The good news is, in the midst of the famine, God has given us the way to satisfaction.
John.6.35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. (NIV)
If you feel this spiritual hunger and are dying from the thirst for the word of God, don't look for the best preacher, you will not understand him. Don't look for the most accurate prophet, you will not believe him. Don't look for the most crowded church, you will call them cults.
There is only one thing to do: find Jesus Christ. Believe Him and trust in Him. He is the bread of life and the water which when drank, one never thirsts again. He is the shepherd who will lead you besides the still waters and make you lie in the green pastures. He restores your soul. [Psalm 23]. I mean He will direct you where to serve from, where you will never miss His voice ever again.
Hallelujah!
