See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. (Colossians.2.8 NIV)
Today is yet another moment that we look into the conversation of freedom versus captivity in our generation. And here is the truth.
i. Freedom is only found in Christ Jesus.
Galatians.3.13 Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified); (AMP)
John.8.36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (KJV)
ii. Anybody outside Christ is under captivity.
2Timothy.2.26 Then they will come to their senses and escape from the Devil's trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants. (NLT)
Many people understand captivity in the sense of initiation into the underworld or being troubled by evil spirits at night. But I charge you, even in the most peaceful state, someone can be under captivity.
In this view, it is possible for the devil to take captive those who have been set free; and here is how.
Our theme scripture warns us to take caution lest anyone take us captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
So captivity is not something hard to get into. When you believe things crafted by human knowledge and philosophy, those doctrines based on human experiences not God's truth, you are already under captivity.
What you believe becomes a stronghold in your mind and that alone can keep you enslaved without notice. That's how cunning the devil can be.
Now you understand why the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
Everyday we are faced with these things that seek to enslave us after we have been set free by God. But what should we do to perform what our theme scripture is charging us?
In 2Corinthiians.10.5, scripture tells us how to fight using our weapons that have divine power to demolish strongholds.
_Cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; (KJV)_
That's how you will fight and remain free in Christ.
Hallelujah!
