But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. (2Chronicles.26.16 NIV)
The story of the reign of King Uzziah starts so well from when he was sixteen. He sought God and was guided by God. As a result he worn wars and conquered his enemies, he built an Amy and towers. Scripture tells us he became powerful.
Is this not how people ascend to heights? Men always have the zeal for God and his counsel when they are low. They seek God in their primary levels in life like babes that desire milk to grow.
God however is faithful and grants his favor to they that seek Him and His counsel. Today you are asking God to guide you in building ministry, in amassing wealth, in navigating the path of education or perhaps getting a peaceful marriage. I know God can not deny you that.
The question is: in your elevated state, will you yield to His instruction or will bend to the yoke of pride?
Uzziah became powerful, but his pride led to his downfall. His heart became lifted. Every elevation by God comes with a certain liberty. What pride does is to assume all liberty. Uzziah thought he now had the liberty to enter the sanctuary of God to burn incense.
As God is consecrating a man, there are places and things that, to that man by God become prohibited. God gives boundaries in the liberty He gives everyone. It is a breech in the spirit to enter where God has instructed you not to because it brings you no honor before God.
In that time burning of incense was only to the house of Aaron not to the King. Your position whatsoever does not give you the license to enter places God has not consecrated you to. To God it is pride.
2Chr.26.17-19 Azariah the priest with eighty other courageous priests of the LORD followed him in. They confronted him and said, "It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the LORD God." Uzziah, who had a censer in his hand ready to burn incense, became angry. While he was raging at the priests in their presence before the incense altar in the LORD's temple, leprosy broke out on his forehead. (NIV)
Leprosy is not just a disease as we think today, leprosy is a curse. So what started as a blessing for Uzziah turns out to be a curse unto his death.
Take heed that the blessings of God in your life does not puff you up to pride and lead to your very destruction. As we have seen, a man can be destroyed by the very thing that was designed to bless his life and all his house hold.
Stick on the guidance of God even in times of your highest prosperity and elevation. The Lord elevates the humble the more yet is against the proud in heart. Soon, theirs is the destruction.
Hallelujah!
