This was totally spontaneous, entirely their own idea, and caught us completely off guard. What explains it was that they had first given themselves unreservedly to God and to us. The other giving simply flowed out of the purposes of God working in their lives. (2 Corinthians.8.5 MSB).
The Lord loves a heart that gives cheerfully, not out of demand or command, but our of love and understanding. Giving not to get but that by your blessing others are blessed. The mind that desires to see that personal interests should be secondary not primary.
So, how does someone become a cheerful giver? How does it become the idea of a Christian to give even when not prompted to? How does someone begin to surprise their neighbors and ministers of the Gospel with gifts?
Here is the way; Our theme scripture shows us how: first give yourselves unreservedly to God and to then to fellow men. No school can teach man how to love and care for others. God is the only one who can teach us how to love and give.
So if you really want to become a cheerful giver, then give yourselves to God. Let God show you His immeasurable riches. When you understand that He is the source of all things, you start to give without the conscience of lack. Why people struggle to give is because they calculate basing on economics.
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on." (Mark.12.41 - 44 NIV)
What had this widow learned that even in her poverty she still gave her all? Start your journey of giving by giving yourself unreservedly to God. The other giving simply flows out of the purposes of God working in your life.
Hallelujah!
