CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH –OUR ROLE

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. (Jude.1.3 NIV)

What more can be revealed or done beyond the faith that God has shown to the saints. Or what other foundation can be laid besides that which God laid through Paul? But there is a danger of truth slipping through the finger of those to whom it has been entrusted to carry on.

Jude is saying, I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, but I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.

Sometimes I think about why Paul made statements such as "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2Timothy.4.7). Then I realized that Christians have a role to play in keeping the faith from men who have crept into the church and are trying to decay the true faith.

How do you accept a faith that you know not whence the proclaimers are coming to replace what those you know who taught you?

The Greek word used for contend in our scripture means To strive; to use earnest efforts to obtain, or to defend and preserve. Now you understand why not everyone should not be entrusted certain responsibilities. But that aside...

A faith which claims to preach salvation not Christ and wants to take advantage of the weak is not true faith. See an example of these wicked men who have crept in in 2 Timothy 3.1-.

Such are the men we should strongly oppose to keep the faith.

Hallelujah!
