What a friend we have in Jesus Christ!
The Psalmist was disturbed not because of the pain upon him, but because of the person who was really attacking him. He says if it was my known enemy attacking me, that would be understandable and would endure it. But in this case it was his very close friend. Moreover one who used to move with him to God's house. Isn't it so disturbing?
Ps.55.12 -14 If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God.
In most cases what hurts is the fact that a friend has betrayed you not what they have really done. But in all that pain, the Psalmists learned one thing: God is the only friend who does not have a second motive.
Many a time we bear pain because we have trusted people with our burdens, hoping to get relief but instead, more pain is added. All this is needless pain because many people are never ready to bear the pain for another.
But we have a friend in Jesus, one who Himself called us to take all our cares to Him, casting them upon Him once and for all.
Matt.11.28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] (AMP)
God never disappoints those who constantly trust in Him.
Hallelujah!
