God is the author and finisher of our faith. Since it is so, then it is impossible to have faith in God if He has no part in our faith. We sincerely need the directions of God.
The God who called light out of darkness is the only one who can open the eyes of our understanding to firstly realize His love. Scripture says God is love and He who doesn't love does not know God. But how can you know Him if He has not shown Himself to you. Secondly is that after you have had an encounter with His love, you enter the place of showing it to others.
It is important to note that the scripture sets the knowing of God's love before the steadfast and patient waiting of the return of Jesus Christ. God's love is what holds us in the place of waiting: hoping in the yet unseen but sure and confident.
Let it be the prayer of your life daily that God guides your heart into knowing His love and the steadfastness and patience of Christ.
To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. (Rom.2.7 NIV)
The Lord delights in a man who seeks His guidance. Those who ask are given and those who seek find. God marked David as "a man after His own Heart."
