Tell Archippus: "See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord." (Colossians.4.17 NIV)
Yes, we all agree that all rewards are perfect at the completion of the work. Christ Jesus was not counted the savior until He died and rose. Crowns are awaiting us at the end of our work.
So Paul in our theme scripture is sending an exhortation through the readers of this letter to Archippus. He says; "See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord."
Now this exhortation is not tied to Archippus only. We have all received a work from God. Now why is it important that Paul spoke this statement that still echoes up to date?
To start with what is the work we have? It is the ministry of reconciliation. [2Cor.5.18-20]. So no matter what Gift you have, the core purpose is to reconcile men to God and present them perfect to God. [Eph.4.11-13].
So one importance is that as we do work given to us, we are saving souls and preparing them to perfection. It is the reason we are to do things not with a selfish ambition [Philippians 2.3].
Then also it is important that we accomplish our tasks because our reward also depends on what we finish doing and what we were actually supposed to do but didn't do. [Rev.22.11].
Let us therefore handle the great commission given to us with great diligence. God is ready to help us to finish whatever He has started to do in us, for His spirit helps us in our weaknesses.
Never think about aborting the work God has given to you. I keep thinking that if Moses, due to the rebellion and opposition of the people gave up His work, then Journey of the Israelites would have exceeded the time they actually spent.
So, today let it settle in your heart that until it is accomplished, like Christ said; "it is finished," don't give up on the work you have received in God.
Hallelujah!
