And now [brethren], I commit you to God [I deposit you in His charge, entrusting you to His protection and care]. And I commend you to the Word of His grace [to the commands and counsels and promises of His unmerited favor]. It is able to build you up and to give you [your rightful] inheritance among all God 's set-apart ones (those consecrated, purified, and transformed of soul). (Acts.20.32 AMP)
A man's gift makes room for him and brings him in the presence of the great. But it's not enough to have room and to be in the presence of the great. Take an example of a person whose application is honored to work in a great company. You enter as a servant. Compare that person with one who gets the favor to become one of the stake holders of that company. The later enters as a boss. Stake holders have something greater than a servant.
When we are talking about entering the Kingdom of God, we are talking about getting an inheritance. Now all people born of God have been given gifts. But these gifts have to be grown. And having grown to maturity as a son, be given your inheritance.
In our theme scripture, the apostle is opening the eyes of the elders and leaders of the Church of Ephesus to really see what counts other than just being an elder. What goes beyond holding a title. What can cause an everlasting impact on the life of a man.
He says 'I commit you to God: I deposit you in His charge, entrusting you to His protection and care.' It is mostly important to note that God is the overall in-charge of all the Church including elders. He takes care of us all. Therefore, all Christians including the leaders have to be subject under the Spirit of God.
Secondly, understanding that what is able to grow a child of God to maturity and to give them an inheritance among all God's set apart is the words of His Grace. Properly rendered to us by the amplified Bible as the commands and counsels and promises of His unmerited favor.
You can be mentioned among the anointed yet have no inheritance. Be able to do great things yet have no inheritance. No child even though they are heirs is given their rightful inheritance until they mature. [Galatians 4.1-3]
You have to mature to receive the inheritance among the set-apart.
Jesus tells of an experience where men will be rejected yet they prophesied in his name.
Matt.7.21 -23 'Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (NIV)
Everything can pass away, but the word of God remains. Now you understand why it can give an everlasting impact on your life.
Hallelujah!
